HCC hosts the Scotties

The Halifax Curling Club is proud to host the 2013 Nova Scotia Ladies Provincial Curling Championships – The Scotties. The round robin runs from Wednesday Jan. 23 to Saturday morning Jan 26 and will reduce the field from the eight qualifiers to three teams. Depending if there are tie breakers required, the semi-final is either Saturday evening or
Sunday morning with the final at 3 pm Sunday. It is an exciting format with the final draws of the round robin often critical to get into the playoffs. On Friday night, beginning directly after the last draw around 9:30, there is a “Mini Purple Heart Lounge” where teams will
mix with fans. Many HCC members have volunteered and their help and expertise is greatly appreciated.

Curlmail – January 3rd

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well, it’s time to get back in the hacks as both our day and evening curling leagues start up again next week.

We also have a number of special events at HCC this month:

1)  Provincial Wheelchair Curling Championships (Fri. Jan. 4-Sun. Jan. 6)
Come out to support this wonderful event.  Draws are Friday at 7:30pm, Saturday at 1pm and 7pm, and Sunday at 9am and 3pm (if necessary).  We are proud to be one of the few clubs that can accommodate this championship.

2)  The Strathcona Cup – (Thurs. Jan. 10)  Help us welcome the Scots to Canada!  This event only happens in Canada every 10 years and we are hosting the draw on Thursday, January 10 from 3pm-5pm.  Join us for an entertaining game and perhaps…..a wee dram.

3) The Scotties (Tues. Jan. 22 – Sun. Jan. 27) We’re looking forward to hosting Nova Scotia’s best women curlers at HCC!  If you are interested in volunteering there will be a sign up sheet on the League board as of this Monday.  Along with the fantastic curling there will also be prize and 50/50 draws, and a mini Purple Heart lounge on the weekend.  This is a huge fundraising event for the Club and so we would appreciate your support.

Curlmail – November 4th

50-50 DRAW
The 50-50 Draw is back! This year will begin a little differently. The first draw will be
on Monday, November 19th which will give everyone 2 weeks to enter. The
substantial carry-over from last year will be included in the first draw (as per Alcohol
and Gaming regulations) so don’t miss out! If you want to know how much the
carry-over is, just check the Schedule Board starting this Monday.
How to purchase: What if you don’t want to remember to pay your toonie every
week? This year you have the option to pay for all the season’s 50/50 draws at once.
Starting Monday, November 5th there will be a form at the Schedule Board to fill out to
enter and pay for all the draws. Please pay at the bar or Day Ladies can pay Soupy.
This option will only be available until Sunday, November 18th.
If you want to continue to pay as you play each week, just put your toonie in the tin at
the Schedule Board and sign your name in the book.

PARKING
As we all know parking is at a premium at the Club. To help alleviate the problem we
would appreciate it if everyone would follow a few simple requests. When you enter
the parking lot, please start parking to the right of Susan Connor’s spot and park in
order around the ‘U’. This way we avoid random parking which takes up extra spots.
Please park straight, not on an angle.

NAME TAGS
If you would like a new metallic name tag, please send Cathy Buik a request and she will put you on the list. The cost is $13 +hst for a pin
back and $16 + hst for a magnetic back. Cathy will be placing the order on Monday,
November 12th.
If you already have a name tag, it would be great if you would wear it to help out our
new members….and well…some of our existing ones too!

TOUCHTUNES JUKE BOX
By now I’m sure you’ve all noticed our new TouchTunes juke box upstairs. This
machine contains thousands of songs for you to play and you can also download your
favourites from the internet. If you don’t want to leave your seat….use your
Smartphone to order and play songs. Touchtunes is also a Photo Booth….so take a
photo of your team and post it to your Facebook page!
The Club receives 30% of all revenue generated from the TouchTunes
system.
